Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Edo State have arrested a 35-year-old medical doctor for the unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm in what authorities described as a major intelligence-led breakthrough.
The suspect, identified as Dr. Kingsley Dele, was apprehended on February 28, 2026, during a targeted operation by the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad (CIRRS).
Police authorities disclosed that the suspect, a resident of Obaretin Community, was arrested around 10:00 a.m. following credible intelligence regarding the alleged possession of an illegal weapon.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper reveal that a swift but discreet operation carried out by the tactical unit led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol from the suspect.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the arrest forms part of an ongoing strategic crackdown on the circulation of illicit firearms across the state.
According to the police chief, the Command maintains a zero-tolerance stance against illegal arms, warning that possession of prohibited weapons remains a serious threat to public safety regardless of the social status or profession of those involved.
