The Edo State Police Command has issued a security advisory to Point-of-Sale (POS) operators across the State following a surge in attacks targeting mobile money agents.
In a statement made available to Uptown Press, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, said the move was prompted by recent intelligence indicating that criminals are now specifically targeting POS operators, especially in isolated or poorly secured locations.
According to the statement, Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, on Thursday, 7th August 2025, met with the executive members of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) to discuss members’ safety concerns. Both parties agreed on areas of collaboration, with AMMBAN pledging to work closely with the Police to curb the threat.
The Command urged POS operators to adopt the following safety measures:
Operate in safe locations: Choose well-lit, busy areas and avoid secluded spots.
Limit cash holdings: Deposit regularly in banks and use digital transactions where possible.
Stay alert: Remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.
Install surveillance: Use CCTV cameras to monitor and deter criminal activity.
Secure premises: Control access points if operating indoors.
Avoid night operations: Reduce risk by limiting late-hour transactions.
Know your customers: Take note of unfamiliar faces, especially those behaving suspiciously.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to work with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and criminal activity promptly.
