The Nigerien Army had given these guards an ultimatum, leading to the sealing off of the president’s residence and offices.
In a statement on Wednesday, Tinubu, as the Chairperson of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, asserted that ECOWAS will not tolerate any action that hinders the functioning of a democratically-elected government in Niger or any part of West Africa.
He assured that the situation is closely monitored, and ECOWAS will take all necessary measures to ensure democracy thrives in the region.
Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering support for Niger’s elected government and the absolute resolve of regional leaders to defend and preserve constitutional order.
