The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 24-year-old woman, allegedly beaten by her husband during a domestic altercation over Ramadan meal preparations.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Wakili, the incident took place at approximately 11:30 pm on 1st March 2025 in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.
The suspect, 50-year-old Alhaji Nuru Isah, a businessman at the Bauchi Central Market, reportedly engaged in a heated dispute with his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, over ingredients and fruits intended for breaking their Ramadan fast. The disagreement allegedly escalated, leading Isah to strike his wife with a cane.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that Wasila lost consciousness following the attack. She was immediately taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival.
The police have arrested the suspect and recovered the cane allegedly used in the assault. The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary, pending an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, assured the public of a thorough investigation and reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring justice. He also condemned domestic violence, urging families to embrace mutual respect and understanding.
The police further called on members of the public to report cases of domestic abuse, stressing that violence within the home carries serious legal consequences.
