A retired Nigerian police inspector, Linus Monday, has been apprehended for conducting a stop-and-search operation despite no longer serving in the police force.
The ex-officer was reportedly dressed in full police uniform and carried an ID card bearing the number 6257.
The arrest was first publicised on Instagram by the account whiteshark_blog, which shared images of Monday being paraded at a police division. The post quickly gained traction, drawing 175 likes and sparking a lively discussion with over 30 comments. Although the exact location of the incident has not been disclosed, the spectacle has raised serious questions about how Monday managed to obtain and misuse official police paraphernalia.
Social media users have been vocal about the incident, with some suspecting the involvement of accomplices. One commenter, @_shopping_for_free, pointed out that such operations typically require more than one individual, suggesting a possible network. Another user, @alhaji_highway, referred to the situation as indicative of “addictive bribery behaviour,” hinting at potential financial motives behind Monday’s actions.
In a related case, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested Rabiu Sani, a man who had been posing as a police officer for over ten years. Acting on credible intelligence, law enforcement officials apprehended Sani, who had been operating near court premises, pretending to be a policeman. A fake police ID card was recovered during his arrest.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Command, confirmed that Sani has since been charged to court. The authorities have vowed to intensify efforts to identify and bring to justice other individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.
