Tragedy has struck the National Assembly as Senator Barinada Mpigi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, is reported dead at the age of 64.
Senator Mpigi represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the Senate. Before his election to the upper chamber of the National Assembly of Nigeria, he served in the Rivers State House of Assembly, where he built a reputation as a grassroots politician.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, he played a key role in legislative oversight of road infrastructure and federal construction projects across the country.
His death is coming as a shock to political stakeholders in Rivers State and beyond.
