…Delivers keynote address
The speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku has been bestowed with an award of honor for his contributions to the state legislature.
The award was conferred on the speaker by the Nigerian Economic Society at the opening ceremony of this year’s South-South economic summit organized by the Nigerian Economic Society and the Department of Economics, University of Benin, in which the Speaker delivered a keynote address.
In his Keynote Address entitled “The Future”, the speaker, Edo State House of Assembly Rt Hon Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku noted that unemployment and poverty rates have undoubtedly been brought to the nearest minimum in the state made possible by quality legislation, while he urged the cooperation of the public with the government of every arm.
The Speaker intimated to the audience the achievements of the 8th Assembly which include the successful passage of 14 bills, over 42 resolutions, as well as oversight functions.
He stated that all legislators of the 8th Assembly have different constituency projects that have a direct impact on the people, as well as the purchase of 48 motorbikes for the 24 constituencies in the state to assist security agencies in curbing crime and boosting the security of lives and properties in the state
He urged the professional body to act in the interests of the future and create a communique for the assembly to act on.
The Speaker who is an alumnus of the Department of Economics, University of Benin year 1999 acknowledged lecturers of his Alma mata who tutored him during his time.
Earlier in a welcome address the Chairman of Nigeria Economic Society, Edo State Chapter, Prof Mercy Anyiwe said the gathering was to make policies for the Economic prosperity of the South-South region.

And the launching of a book by a professor Emeritus of Economics, Prof S E N Okoh.
As one of the co-launchers The Speaker, bought three copies of the book, while donating two to the university library.
The summit Tagged “Global Economic Realities of our time : Prospects and Challenges for the South-south region”, was a gathering of professors and economists From the south-south zone of the country.
