The campaign organization of Rt Hon. Mrs Elizabeth Ativie on Monday pays a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ Press Centre, Benin City to intimate them of her readiness to contest the forth coming Federal House Representative election Ohunmwonde/Ohrionwon Federal constituency
Speaking at the visitation, she said that the reason she is contesting for the position is because she has the needed experience and qualifications to run coupled with the burning desire and passion to serve her people.
According to her, the House of Representatives is not for the inexperience. It requires political sagacity, training and competence.
Hon. Ativie said: “The House of Representatives and by extension the Senate is not a place for those who are new in politics. You can’t come in and spend your first two years learning how to address the Chairman of the House, how to move motion or how to perform oversight functions.”
She promised that when elected, she would leverage on her experience as a former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly to bring dividend of democracy to her constituency.
She urged journalists to perform their role as the watch dog of the society by projecting hardworking and experience aspirants for political positions over money politics.
She noted that because of monetization of politics, the election process in Nigeria has been corrupted.
Responding, the Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Chapter, Mr. Festus Alenkhe said though journalists are apolitical in matter of election.
He, however, assured that journalists in the State will use their pen to promote and support competent and experienced women like her who are vying for political positions in the State.
