Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has waded into a simmering land dispute between the Oghede community and the Nigerian Army.

On Friday, the Senator paid a courtesy visit to Brigadier General Ebenezer Olufemi Oduyebo, Commander of the 4th Brigade, Nigerian Army, in Benin City. The meeting was part of an intervention aimed at de-escalating tensions over ownership and occupation of land between the military and the local community.

Following constructive deliberations at the 4th Brigade headquarters, Senator Imasuen and Brigadier General Oduyebo proceeded to Oghede to meet with community leaders. Both parties pledged commitment to peace and agreed to convene a wider meeting involving all stakeholders.

Speaking after the visit, Senator Imasuen expressed optimism that dialogue and mutual understanding would pave the way for a lasting resolution. “We are committed to ensuring this matter is resolved amicably. It is important for both the Army and the Oghede community to coexist peacefully,” he said.

The Senator assured residents that no unilateral action would be taken without due consultation and that every party’s interest would be considered in the forthcoming negotiations.

The yet-to-be-scheduled stakeholder meeting is expected to bring together representatives of the Army, community elders, legal advisers, and government officials to jointly chart a path forward.

The land in question has reportedly been the subject of growing tensions, prompting concerns of possible confrontation. Senator Imasuen’s intervention is now being seen as a crucial step towards averting crisis and rebuilding trust.
