Senator Imasuen Hails Super Falcons’ Heroics in Historic WAFCON Triumph

Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has praised the Super Falcons for their dramatic and inspiring victory over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Nigerian women’s national football team stunned the host nation with a 3-2 win, overcoming a daunting two-goal deficit in the first half to clinch their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

In a statement celebrating the team’s feat, Senator Imasuen described the comeback as a “masterclass in courage, tenacity, and tactical brilliance,” noting that the Super Falcons have once again proven themselves as continental giants.

“This victory is not just about lifting a trophy; it’s a shining example of what determination and unity of purpose can achieve,” Imasuen said. “The Falcons showed the heart of champions, rallying from behind against the odds to bring joy to millions of Nigerians.”

The Senator commended the players for their grit, the coaching crew for their tactical insight, and all support staff whose efforts made the historic win possible. He also highlighted the broader significance of the victory, saying it would encourage many young Nigerians—especially girls—to chase excellence in sports and other endeavours.

“The Super Falcons have made Nigeria proud. Their performance has once again demonstrated the power of sport to unite, uplift, and inspire a nation,” he added.

Imasuen urged continued investment in women’s football and called on all stakeholders to support the growth of female athletes across the country.
