Senator Neda Imasuen has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in a London hospital on Saturday at the age of 82.
In a statement issued from his office, the Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District described Buhari’s death as a profound national loss, saying the late leader would be remembered for his unwavering dedication to the service of Nigeria.
“President Buhari was not only a former military Head of State and democratically elected President, but a symbol of discipline, integrity, and national service,” Imasuen stated. “His contributions to the unity, security, and anti-corruption efforts of our country are etched in the pages of our nation’s history.”
He extended condolences on behalf of himself, his family, and the people of Edo South to the Buhari family and all Nigerians mourning the passing of the elder statesman.
Senator Imasuen highlighted Buhari’s enduring commitment to the country, noting that “from the battlefield to the presidency, Muhammadu Buhari dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria.” He praised Buhari’s resolve in tackling national challenges, citing efforts to strengthen security and reposition the economy for self-reliance during his time in office.
“Nigeria has indeed lost one of its foremost leaders — a man who stood firmly by his convictions and led with an uncommon sense of duty and patriotism,” the statement read.
The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, described Buhari’s death as marking the end of an era but affirmed that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
“As we mourn this national loss, I pray for strength and comfort for his beloved wife, children, and extended family. May Allah (SWT) grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and may Nigeria find peace and progress in the ideals he stood for,” he added.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria first as a military ruler and later as a civilian president, leaves behind a complex legacy that continues to shape national discourse.
