Senator Neda Imasuen’s path to a second term in the Senate appears firmly set, as journalists under the Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, and the Edo South Journalists Forum, on Sunday, assured him of media collaboration ahead of the 2027 general election.
Rising from a courtesy visit to the senator’s residence in Amagba, Benin City, the groups resolved that Imasuen deserves a media partnership given his record of performance in less than two years.
Convener of the meeting, Comrade Edosa Okunbo, said the initiative was to ensure Edo South produced a “ranking senator” capable of attracting greater development to the district. “Our task is to promote Edo South leaders who deliver real dividends of democracy. Senator Imasuen has done just that,” he stated.
Chairperson of the Federated Chapel, Mercy Onyenweli, who recently secured a fresh three-year mandate, pledged full media support for the senator while requesting his assistance in equipping the Chapel’s secretariat.
Former Edo State Commissioner for Transport, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, urged journalists to highlight Imasuen’s achievements, which he listed as rural electrification in over 200 communities, facilitation of federal appointments, provision of clean water projects, agricultural support for farmers, scholarships, JAMB sponsorships, and empowerment schemes for artisans and traditional birth attendants.
In his remarks, Senator Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, thanked the journalists for their solidarity, stressing that his re-election would consolidate the experience he had gained in the National Assembly.
“Ranking is not just a title. It determines influence, the committees you chair, and the development you can attract home. Edo South must not miss this opportunity,” Imasuen said.
Reflecting on his leadership style, the senator noted that he preferred results over self-promotion. “Politics demands you spend more on advertising achievements than delivering them. But my record speaks for itself,” he remarked.
Imasuen, who emphasised his legislative achievements and commitment to accountability, appealed for continued media partnership to amplify his efforts and counter political misinformation.
