The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr Mkor Aondona, an aide to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, over alleged sexual exploitation, cyberbullying and sextortion targeting “slim and attractive” female students.
Aondona, the governor’s special adviser on documentation, research and planning, was taken into custody by EFCC operatives in Makurdi, the state capital, on Friday, 20 June, following a wave of petitions from women who accused him of exploiting his position for sexual gain.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the EFCC confirmed the arrest, describing Aondona’s conduct as “unethical and criminal” and adding that he had allegedly promised female students ushering jobs in exchange for sexual favours.
The EFCC further stated that Aondona allegedly recorded intimate encounters with unsuspecting victims and used these videos to blackmail and manipulate them into further sexual relationships. According to the commission, the suspect sometimes circulated the recordings via messaging platforms when the women refused to continue yielding to his demands.
“The petitioners alleged that Aondona was routinely recruiting slim and attractive girls for ushering jobs and insisted on sexual favours as a condition for their selection,” the EFCC said.
“Based on this, they became vulnerable to having sexual affairs with him, but unbeknownst to them, he had videos of every sexual act captured without their consent and used these as leverage to force their silence and compliance.”
The EFCC confirmed that Aondona would be charged to court soon as investigations into the matter continue.
