The Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, James Anodoakaa Iorpuu on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 received the Nigerian INGO (NIF), Forum in his office.
Speaking on behalf of the Organization, the team lead, Mrs. Camilla Corradin said, the INGO Forum is responsible for the coordination of humanitarian partners for better service delivery.
She added that the INGO is a platform of 55 NGOs in Nigeria, saying the visit was to get an update in respect to the Internally Displaced Persons situation in Benue State.
According to her, they are in close contact with International Organizations like the MSF, UNHCR, NCFRMI, ICRC among other international humanitarian partners for effective and robust support to the targeted Persons of Concern.
While briefing the Ag. BSEMA boss on the outcome of the meeting they had with the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barr. Dr. Sam Ode, yesterday, the INGO boss explained that the meeting was to chat way forward for smooth interaction in the State with support partners to avoid duplication of intervention, adding that they will be paying a courtesy visit to the Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Iormem Alia to know the humanitarian situation in the State.
Relatedly, Mr. Musa Baba said the Organization intend to work closely with the SEMA boss since he is responsible for the coordination of humanitarian activities in the State as well as get an update on the humanitarian challenges so to partner with other NGOs working for more effective and coordinated intervention.
He described the BSEMA as a very critical Agency to receive reliable information for possibly relating same to donor Agencies, calling for political will on the part of Government to pave way for NGOs to step in with support.
Responding the Ag. BSEMA boss described the visit as important and timely especially now that the Benue State Government led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia is working tirelessly through BSEMA in close collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), for the training of staff for collection of reliable data to enhance proper planning of returning the IDPs back to their communities.
Sir. James Iorpuu identified shelter accommodation and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) as a huge challenge in Anyiin, Agagbe, Naka and Ichwa IDP camps.
The Acting ES appealed to them as a matter of urgency to shift their base from Borno State to Benue State, owning to the ugly situation of Persons of Concern in the State.
While soliciting for their support to cater for the population of IDPs, he said, Benue State has 14 IDP camps in the State.
He later took the delegation to the Ichwa IDPs camp for first hand information as well as to ascertain the condition of the persons of concern.
