Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to combat insecurity by tackling its root causes rather than focusing solely on law enforcement.
Speaking at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia while receiving a Good Governance Award from Vanguard Media Limited, Soludo highlighted his government’s proactive measures aimed at restoring safety across the state.
He recalled that upon assuming office nearly three years ago, non-state actors held sway in seven local government areas of Anambra South. While acknowledging that security challenges persist, he expressed optimism that the government’s latest strategies would bring lasting stability.
Under Soludo’s leadership, Anambra has witnessed the introduction of the Udo Ga Achi security initiative, backed by the Agunechemba operational unit. With state-of-the-art logistics and an enhanced patrol system, security forces have intensified their efforts to root out crime and its enablers.
A significant aspect of this initiative has been the crackdown on individuals allegedly deceiving young people with false promises of instant wealth, leading them into criminal activities.
Soludo condemned the growing influence of fraudulent religious leaders and traditional practitioners, whom he accused of exploiting vulnerable individuals for personal gain. “We must address insecurity at its foundation. It is not just about pursuing criminals but eliminating the factors that create them,” he stated.
The Governor acknowledged the pain of parents who have seen their children drawn into crime despite being raised with sound moral values. He reassured Anambra families that his administration’s security reforms would yield long-term benefits.
“Many mothers have cried out over the loss of their children to crime. But now, they are beginning to see hope. I believe our efforts will be remembered as a defining moment in reshaping the values of this generation,” he added.
As part of ongoing reforms, Soludo pledged to intensify efforts against harmful societal practices that promote crime, urging community leaders and religious institutions to support the campaign for a safer Anambra.
