Members of the Progressive Forces of South Africa (on behalf of concerned civic movements and South African citizens) protest outside the Nigerian Embassy in Pretoria on March 31, 2026, following the apparent installation of a Nigerian chief Solomon Ogbonna Eziko as an ‘Igbo King’ in KuGompo in the Eastern Cape.
The outrage erupted after videos and photos went viral on social media showing Eziko being crowned “Igwe Ndigbo” of KuGompo City.
Provincial authorities and cultural experts have condemned the coronation calling it unlawful and a violation of customary protocols.
