Omoyele Sowore, the Nigerian human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, has launched a blistering attack on the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, accusing him of diverting church funds to finance a lavish lifestyle for Nollywood actresses and allegedly staging miracles to deceive worshippers.
In a series of posts on his verified social media handles on Saturday, Sowore alleged that tithes and offerings paid by members of Suleiman’s church were being used for what he described as “decadent pursuits”, including the purchase of luxury vehicles and property for actresses. He also accused the cleric of orchestrating fake miracles to bolster his influence and following.
Sowore specifically claimed that Apostle Suleiman bought a Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV and a house in Maryland, Lagos, for Nollywood actress Daniella Okeke. He further alleged that when Sahara Reporters uncovered documents linked to the vehicle, the cleric hurriedly moved to have records removed from the Lagos State vehicle licensing database.
The activist also revisited a long-running legal dispute between himself and the pastor, dating back eight years, arising from Sowore’s earlier reports on alleged extramarital affairs involving Suleiman and a woman identified as Stephanie Otobo. According to Sowore, the pastor initiated legal action at the time but later sought to withdraw the case on the condition that further reporting ceased, a condition he said he rejected.
In an extended statement, Sowore accused Suleiman of using State institutions to intimidate critics during the previous administration, claiming that the Nigeria Police Force was deployed to arrest individuals at the pastor’s behest. He said that era, in his words, “is over”.
Sowore also questioned recent legal moves allegedly taken by Apostle Suleiman against him and Sahara Reporters, claiming that key figures were deliberately excluded from the suit. He cited a podcast, KAA Truth, and unnamed individuals who had accused the cleric of helping other pastors stage fake miracles, insisting that contrary to Suleiman’s claims, no retraction or apology had been issued.
He further alleged that Stephanie Otobo was removed from the amended lawsuit because her testimony could have undermined the pastor’s case, claiming she was later paid to apologise publicly before the congregation and given what he described as a “fake alert”.
“I am not the victim here,” Sowore wrote. “My concern is for your victims, those whose meagre offerings and tithes you have diverted to fund these decadent pursuits.”
He also accused the pastor of hypocrisy over security arrangements, alleging that while police officers died protecting him in unarmoured vehicles, he travelled in bulletproof cars.
As of the time of filing this report, Apostle Johnson Suleiman had not publicly responded to the latest allegations. The accusations remain claims by Sowore, and no court has ruled on them.
