The Health Sector of Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI) recently held the Sector’s Delegate’s Conference (SDC) to elect Executive Committee members to run the affairs of the sector for the next four years at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin Kwara State.
Speaking shortly after the election, the newly elected Sector Chairman, Comrade Ken Bassey from the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar expressed gratitude to God for giving him the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Health Sector of the union and equally thanked the delegates for their perseverance at the SDC. He promised to take the union to a higher level by prioritizing members’ welfare at all times throughout his tenure as the leader of the sector. Comrade Bassey urged members to stay united as that is the best way to achieve meaningful results.
The election also ushered in Comrade Samuel Ayo-Adebayo from National Orthopeadics Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos as Vice Chairman; Comrade (Mrs.) Boyede Olubunmi from Federal Medical Centre, Bida as Treasurer, Comrade (Mrs.) O.F. Ogunbanwo from University College Hospital, Ibadan and Comrade Martins Olanipekun Oyewole from Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife as NEC Representatives. Others are Comrade Jerry Enajite Ikanone from Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and Comrade Uwaifo Jeff Aigbokhai from Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua as Financial Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively.
In a brief remark, the President of SSAUTHRIAI, Dr. Benjamin Akintola tasked the newly elected executives on the need to work together for the growth of the union. He called on members to give every necessary support to the new leader of the sector to enable him lead the union to a greater height at the sector. Other members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) present at the conference were the Vice President, Comrade Fidelis Ogobor and Comrade Jane Agabi, National Publicity Secretary.
The election held on 8th December, 2022 was conducted by the General Secretary, Comrade E. O. Popoola as returning officer.
