Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been urged to confront the allegations against him directly instead of attempting to shift responsibility onto others.
The corruption and financial misconduct allegations stemming from his time in office are serious matters that require legal clarification, not political deflection. These issues cannot be dismissed through public statements or by drawing unrelated individuals into the controversy.
Contrary to claims and insinuations, it was not Nuhu Ribadu who initiated the investigation. The Kaduna State Government formally referred the matter to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for proper investigation.
Attempts to redirect public attention or personalize the issue only distract from the fundamental question whether due process was followed and whether public resources were properly managed during his administration.
During his tenure, there were persistent allegations involving mismanagement of public funds, controversial demolitions, and governance decisions that critics argued lacked transparency and procedural fairness.
Now that the appropriate authorities are reviewing these matters, the appropriate course of action is clear: respond to the allegations within the framework of the law.
If exonerated, the legal process will affirm it. If wrongdoing is established, accountability must follow as it would for any citizen.
Additionally, critics have pointed to strained relationships and alleged political persecution during his time in office, including disputes involving former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani.
