Ejikeme Mmesoma has issued an apology to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding the alleged forgery of her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
Mmesoma appeared before an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, where she expressed remorse for her actions.
During the committee session, JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede and other top directors of the board were also present to provide their testimony.
Ejikeme pleaded for leniency and requested that the ban imposed on her be lifted. She expressed regret, acknowledging the pain she caused and taking responsibility for her actions.
Before her appearance before the House ad hoc committee, an Anambra committee assigned to investigate the controversy had reported that Ejikeme admitted to falsifying her UTME results.
In May, Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra State, gained popularity when she was purported to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME.
Although JAMB did not confirm her as the overall best candidate, she received widespread celebration.
In response to the public claims, JAMB later announced that Ejikeme’s actual score was 249, not 362, asserting that she had misrepresented the results to deceive the public.
Consequently, a panel was set up to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
As part of the panel’s recommendations, Ejikeme was expected to tender a written apology to JAMB, the Anglican Girls Secondary School, and the Anambra State government.
