Suspected Vandal Electrocuted While Tampering with Power Installation in Aba

Tragedy struck in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba on Monday, 5 May 2025, when a suspected vandal lost his life after being electrocuted while attempting to tamper with an electricity installation.

The incident occurred near the Wilcox Relief transformer in the early hours of the morning. Eyewitnesses reported that the man had climbed a high-tension electricity pole, allegedly in an effort to steal parts from the system, when the power supply was unexpectedly restored.

A video circulating on social media appears to capture the harrowing moment the man came into contact with a live wire, resulting in his immediate electrocution. The footage has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many warning against the dangers of illegal interference with public infrastructure.

Police operatives later arrived at the scene to retrieve the body, which has been taken to a local mortuary.

A social media user who claimed to have witnessed the aftermath commented: “We just received information that the incident happened at the Wilcox Relief transformer in Ogbor Hill, Aba. The man was allegedly trying to steal system-attached components when power supply was suddenly restored — and boom — it ended in tragedy.”
