The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has announced the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, as a recipient of the prestigious SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
The announcement was made in a statement jointly signed by SWAN National President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, and Secretary-General, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, following a press briefing in Abuja.
According to the association, Enabulele’s selection was based on his “exceptional leadership, visionary reforms, and lasting impact on sports growth in Edo State and beyond.”
“The conferment is in recognition of the national pride and glory you have brought to your fatherland. Nigerian sports writers owe it to thank you for making Nigeria great through sports,” the statement read.
The SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award, which marks the association’s 60th anniversary, honours individuals whose dedication and initiatives have significantly advanced the nation’s sporting landscape.
Reacting to the honour through his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele described the award as “a reward for diligence, teamwork, and the collective commitment of the Edo State Sports Commission towards achieving excellence.”
He expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, dedicating the recognition to him for his visionary leadership and continued investment in sports.
“This recognition is not mine alone; it belongs to His Excellency, whose passion and support for sports have inspired all we do at the Commission. His leadership continues to transform the lives of our youth through sports,” Enabulele said.
He also commended the management, coaches, and athletes of the Edo State Sports Commission for their dedication and resilience, noting that their collective efforts have sustained Edo’s dominance as a sporting powerhouse.
Under Enabulele’s leadership, the Edo State Sports Commission has repositioned sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment through grassroots initiatives, partnerships, and training programmes — achievements that have yielded consistent success for Edo athletes at national and international levels.
The award presentation will take place on Thursday, 31 October 2025, at 1 p.m. at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with top dignitaries and sports stakeholders expected to attend.
The recognition of Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, SWAN noted, underscores Edo State’s growing influence in Nigerian sports and the enduring impact of purposeful leadership.
