A 19-year-old Nigerian boy has been found dead in Afio village, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.
The deceased, identified as Sunday Moses, was discovered hanging from a tree in a remote, rocky area of the village. According to reports, he had informed his 47-year-old brother, John Egbe, that he was stepping out to find better mobile network reception in order to make a phone call. However, after several hours without his return, Egbe launched a search and tragically found his brother lifeless.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that initial findings indicated Moses had recently lost his mother, who had yet to be buried in their hometown of Oju Local Government Area, Benue State.
“The deceased left home early on 10 February 2025 to find a location with better network service,” Odutola stated. “When he did not return, his elder brother grew concerned and eventually traced him to the scene, where he made the devastating discovery.”
Police detectives were promptly dispatched to investigate, documenting the scene with photographs before releasing the body to the family for burial in accordance with their traditional customs.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
