A motor park manager identified simply as AK was killed in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, in a cult-related attack on Friday morning.
According to Naija Confra, the incident took place at Osarodion Park, Angle 90 in Auchi and was part of a reprisal by members of the Vikings confraternity against the Aye group. AK, who was reportedly the manager of Osarodion Park and a former member of the Aye confraternity, was gunned down despite having distanced himself from cult activities.
“AK was known to be kind, peaceful, humble, and very dedicated to his work and family,” Naija Confra said in a statement. “Though he had stopped cultism, he was still targeted in this revenge killing.”
Naija Confra further explained that the killing was triggered by a failed attempt by Vikings to assassinate an Aye leader a few days earlier. “This led to further retaliation, resulting in AK’s murder,” the group added.
Calls have since grown louder for the Edo State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to stop the spate of cult violence in Auchi. The Edo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of going to press.
