Scammers Exploit University of Benin VC’s Name on Social Media

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie (SAN), has issued a stern warning against fraudulent individuals using his name and photographs to dupe the public via fake social media accounts.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, the University’s spokesperson, urged the public to be cautious of scams that involve requests for money or fake contracts purportedly from Professor Omoregie. These scams are circulating across various platforms, including Facebook.

Ehanire stressed that as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a senior public office holder, Professor Omoregie strictly follows proper channels for official matters and would never engage in such transactions via social media or unofficial platforms.

She further advised members of the public to disregard any friendship requests or financial solicitations involving the Vice Chancellor’s name and to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
