The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has vehemently denied reports suggesting any discord between him and Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing the rumours as “unfounded and baseless.”
Addressing the issue during a courtesy visit by members of the Edo Parliament of Nigeria at the Government House in Benin City on Tuesday, Idahosa reiterated that the relationship between him and his principal remains exceptionally cordial, likening it to that of an elder and younger brother.
“Let me set the record straight,” Idahosa stated. “There have been numerous rumours suggesting a rift between myself and my principal. This is not the case. Our relationship is as strong as ever, and we continue to work harmoniously for the development of Edo State.”
The Deputy Governor went on to emphasise that the current administration, led by Governor Okpebholo, is focused on delivering good governance and enacting policies aimed at improving the lives of Edo residents. He highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving the state’s developmental goals.
“We are fully committed to the welfare of the people of Edo,” Idahosa continued. “The administration under Senator Okpebholo is determined to prioritise the needs of our citizens above all else. I ask for your continued support and prayers as we work towards the betterment of our dear State.”
Idahosa also called on professionals and other stakeholders in the state to contribute their ideas and expertise to the ongoing development efforts, stating that the government is open to valuable suggestions that can help shape the future of Edo.
“We need your input, your ideas, and your experience to move this state forward,” he urged. “Together, we can achieve great things for Edo. I am honoured to serve as Deputy Governor, and I assure you that, with your support, we will continue to advance the state’s development.”
Earlier, the President of the Edo Parliament of Nigeria, Professor Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, who was represented by the Secretary-General, Dr. Aimufua Festus, commended the achievements of the Governor Okpebholo-led administration and congratulated Idahosa on his recent electoral success. Dr. Festus expressed confidence in the leadership of the Deputy Governor and pledged the Parliament’s continued support for the government’s development agenda.
Idahosa’s remarks come amid growing concerns over political instability in some regions, but his clarifications are expected to reassure citizens that the administration is united in its efforts to uplift Edo State.
