What began as a routine workday ended in unspeakable tragedy for Chigozie Udalor, a dedicated site engineer and fish farmer, who his own employees allegedly murdered in a shocking betrayal driven by greed.
Udalor, who managed a fish pond in the quiet Bod Camp area of Akwukwu Igbo community in Delta State, was first reported missing by his cousin, Hyacinth Nnalue, on 10 December 2024. With no sign of his whereabouts for months, his disappearance sparked anxiety and heartbreak among family and friends.
The devastating truth only came to light in late March, when police investigations uncovered a sinister plot. On 31 March 2025, officers from the Delta State Police Command apprehended two suspects—David Tacho and Daniel Orshio—after one of them was allegedly caught attempting to withdraw funds from Udalor’s Moniepoint account using his mobile phone.
As police delved deeper, a chilling narrative emerged. According to the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Superintendent Bright Edafe, the suspects had discovered that Udalor held a substantial amount of money in his account. Driven by avarice, they conspired to kill him and steal his assets.
The investigation revealed that Tacho, Orshio, and two accomplices still on the run—identified as Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho—attacked Udalor at the work site, fatally striking him on the head with a hammer. They then reportedly tied up his body and buried him in a shallow grave on the premises.
Following the arrest and confessions of the suspects, police exhumed Udalor’s remains. His body has been sent for autopsy, while search operations have been intensified to apprehend the two fugitives.
The revelation has left the Akwukwu Igbo community in shock. Udalor was known not only for his work ethic but for his generosity, having provided employment opportunities to the very individuals now accused of orchestrating his death.
“This is a heartbreaking case,” said SP Edafe. “The fact that the perpetrators were people he trusted makes it all the more tragic. We are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
The police are calling on the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho. Members of the community or anyone with relevant knowledge are urged to contact the Delta State Police Command immediately.
For Udalor’s family, the grief is compounded by the betrayal. “He took them in, gave them work, treated them like family,” said his cousin. “They repaid him with this. We just want justice for Chigozie.”
As the investigation continues, the nation watches in sorrow and disbelief, mourning a life senselessly cut short by those he sought to uplift.
