Benin City — The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Governing Council has announced the appointment of Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, SAN, as the institution’s 11th substantive Vice Chancellor.
Professor Omoregie, a distinguished scholar in Comparative Constitutional Law and Legislative Governance, will lead UNIBEN with his extensive legal expertise and academic background.
Professor Omoregie, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been a respected member of the Nigerian Bar since 1992.
His legal education was completed at the University of Benin, followed by the Nigerian Law School in Lagos.
With a PhD in Comparative Constitutional Law, Professor Omoregie specialises in Federalism and Governance, areas he has dedicated his career to both in teaching and in research.
Since joining the Faculty of Law at UNIBEN in 1998, Professor Omoregie has made substantial contributions to the university’s academic community.
His expertise extends beyond the classroom to his role as Acting Director of the Department of Legislative Support Services at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), where he has been on a national assignment since 2019.
Additionally, he has taught postgraduate courses on Legislative Drafting, Legislative Studies, and Electoral Legal and Regulatory Framework for over a decade through the UNIBEN/NILDS partnership.
Professor Omoregie’s academic work has been widely published and recognized both in Nigeria and internationally.
His memberships include the International Bar Association, the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel, and the International Association of Legislation, among others.
Known for his dedication to education and governance, Professor Omoregie brings a wealth of experience to his new role as Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN.
He is a widely travelled professional and is happily married with children.
