Several students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) are reported to be trapped after a storey building collapsed on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, following a heavy downpour early Saturday morning. The area is known for housing university students.
Rescue operations are currently underway, with emergency responders and university teams working tirelessly to reach those still trapped under the rubble. A student who spoke on the condition of anonymity revealed that some of the trapped individuals had already been pulled out, although many sustained severe injuries. “The injured victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment,” the student added.
The student also noted that one victim remains trapped inside the collapsed structure, with rescuers still working to locate and save them. The trapped victim reportedly managed to call for help from under the debris, pleading for immediate rescue.
The Dean of Students of UNIBEN is reportedly at the scene, supervising the rescue operations alongside the university rescue team. As of the time of reporting, the university management has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of victims involved.
