US Congratulates Edo on Successful Conduct of Election

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has commended the people of Edo State for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the gubernatorial elections held on September 21st.

In a statement issued by Richard Mills Jr., the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria in Abuja and made available to Uptown Press, the mission praised the maturity displayed by voters throughout the process.

Ambassador Mills reiterated the U.S. government’s call for calm in the wake of the announcement of the election results, encouraging stakeholders to prioritize peace.

He expressed confidence in the leadership of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, noting his role in promoting stability during the electoral process.

The U.S. envoy urged all parties, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to respect the established electoral procedures and the legal mechanisms available for contesting the results. He emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Furthermore, the United States reaffirmed its commitment to supporting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections in Nigeria. Ambassador Mills added that the U.S. would continue to monitor developments closely in the days ahead.
