Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, paid a courtesy visit to his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Alex Otti, on Friday to deliberate on partnerships aimed at advancing regional development in the South-East.
Accompanied by former Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Uzodinma emphasized the need for unity among the five governors of the zone to drive progress.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Uzodinma said the governors are actively sharing ideas to improve the welfare and survival of the people in the region. “We in the South East are determined to develop the region. The only way we can do this is through collaboration,” he stated.
As Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Uzodinma highlighted his responsibility to engage with fellow governors. “I have a responsibility to touch base with them, discuss, share ideas, and agree on how best to help the people of the region,” he added.
He further assured that the five governors have committed to ensuring the South-East remains an integral part of Nigeria.
Uzodinma dismissed speculations that the visit was linked to political maneuvers ahead of the 2027 elections, describing it instead as a New Year courtesy call. He commended Governor Otti for his strong performance in governance.
Host Governor Alex Otti expressed gratitude for the visit and echoed that it carried no political undertones. He stressed that differences in political party affiliations should not be seen as opposition.
