The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a ground-breaking initiative that allows candidates to resit their WASSCE papers earlier than ever before.
Starting in 2025, students who wish to improve their grades can take advantage of the new resit schedule, which runs from 24th January to 15th February.
Previously, candidates needing to resit had to wait for the next private exam cycle. However, this new programme, known as WASSCE PC1, offers a streamlined opportunity for students to retake specific subjects soon after receiving their results.
Speaking on Ghana’s JoyNews AM Show, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, emphasised the benefits of the initiative. “Students now have until 8th January to register online via our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” he said. He also highlighted WAEC’s commitment to providing timely support for candidates, including expedited chief examiners’ reports.
“These reports will offer in-depth insights into common mistakes made by students and practical advice to help them perform better,” Mr Kapi explained.
Eligibility for the WASSCE PC1 exams extends to students whose results have been cancelled, provided they are not subject to bans for malpractice. However, the initial phase of the programme will be conducted only in regional capitals due to the expected lower number of candidates.
Mr Kapi assured the public that WAEC has widely advertised the programme through various platforms to ensure both students and parents are well-informed.
This initiative is expected to provide a crucial lifeline for candidates aiming to qualify for upcoming admissions cycles, enabling them to avoid long delays in their academic pursuits.
