The Edo State Government has clarified that it reached out to victims of the Dangote truck accidents at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) before the visit of social critic, VDM.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, said he had earlier visited the victims to ensure their treatment began without delay.
Dr. Oshiomhole explained that during a follow-up visit on Saturday, August 16, he met with reality star Phyna Otabor and her sister, Miss Ruth Otabor, who was recently involved in a Dangote truck accident. According to him, the Dangote Group has since pledged to take full responsibility for Ruth’s medical expenses.
“Ruth is a courageous young woman, and with God’s grace and proper medical care, she will walk again. I urge the public to keep her in their prayers,” he said.
The Commissioner also disclosed that he visited another young woman who has been hospitalised for 11 months after a similar accident, assuring her mother that the state government under Governor Monday Okpebholo will respond positively to their request for support.
While appreciating VDM for his efforts , he noted that Governor Okpebholo had since approved funds to cover surgery and full medical care for Miss Faith, a patient with 85% burns, whose treatment had earlier been directed to commence immediately.
Dr. Oshiomhole stressed that these interventions highlight the government’s commitment to supporting accident victims, providing urgent medical attention, and restoring hope to families in distress.
