A woman in labour has reportedly given birth safely after uttering the words “God of Nyesom Wike” three times, in what locals have described as a miraculous turn of events.
The incident occurred in Ahoada, a community in Rivers State, and has caused widespread curiosity and debate both locally and online. Witnesses say the woman was experiencing serious labour complications and medical staff were preparing to carry out a caesarean section. However, moments before the procedure, she is said to have cried out repeatedly, invoking the name of the former governor, Nyesom Wike.
Shortly after, she gave birth naturally without surgical intervention.
The story came to light during a recent visit to the community by Mr Wike, now a prominent political figure at the national level. A traditional leader addressing the gathering recounted the incident, saying:
“Last night, a woman in labour could not deliver, and the hospital had already prepared the theatre for surgery. But when she heard that you, Wike were coming today, she shouted ‘God of Nyesom Wike, let me deliver safely’ three times – and she delivered.”
The revelation was met with applause from some in attendance, while others looked on in disbelief.
Reactions to the story have been mixed. Some residents and social media users view it as a powerful expression of faith, drawing parallels between psychological strength and belief in leadership. Others remain sceptical, pointing out the lack of medical confirmation or evidence of a direct link between the exclamation and the safe delivery.
As of the time of publication, Mr Wike has not publicly commented on the matter. Nonetheless, the event has added to the folklore surrounding his name in Rivers State, where he continues to command significant admiration from supporters.
