Authorities in Ogun State have commenced an investigation following the tragic discovery of a young farmer who was found hanged in a forest near Ijebu-Igbo.
The deceased, 25-year-old Toye Dominic, was discovered by a local hunter, Kareem Olawalose, while on a routine expedition in the Alagbodagbo Village area on Thursday, 13 March 2025. The hunter promptly alerted the police after making the shocking find.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, revealed that the deceased’s elder brother, Joseph Dominic, had also been searching for him after he failed to return from the farm earlier in the day. The police, alongside villagers, later arrived at the scene and found Dominic’s farm tools set aside before he proceeded further into the forest, where he was discovered.
“No suicide note was found at the scene, and family members have expressed deep shock over the incident,” Odutola stated.
The deceased’s body has since been taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu Ode for further examination.
The Ogun State Police Command has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
In a broader appeal, the command urged members of the public to pay closer attention to the mental well-being of their loved ones, stressing that emotional support and timely intervention are essential in addressing mental health challenges.
