Zenith Bank Plc has opened discussions with the Edo State Ministry of Transportation on a potential partnership to modernise the state’s transport system, during a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Saturday Idehen Uwuilekhue, in Benin City on Wednesday.

The bank’s delegation, led by senior executives, said the visit was part of its commitment to supporting public-sector innovation, particularly in areas that promote digital efficiency, revenue optimisation, and enhanced service delivery for citizens. The officials emphasised that Edo State’s transport sector presents “significant opportunities for technology-driven improvement.”

Welcoming the team, Hon. Uwuilekhue praised Zenith Bank for its longstanding support to developmental initiatives across Edo State, describing the visit as timely and strategic. He reiterated the ministry’s readiness to explore partnerships that will improve transparency, streamline operations, and advance the State’s drive towards a fully digitised transport system.

Discussions at the meeting focused on a number of potential areas of collaboration, including the introduction of digital payment platforms, support for transport infrastructure, and modern mobility solutions aimed at easing movement and boosting internally generated revenue.

The engagement ended with both sides agreeing to take concrete next steps towards a formal partnership — a move expected to strengthen Edo State’s transportation framework and position the state as a model for digital innovation in public mobility.

As Edo intensifies efforts to modernise its transport ecosystem, the partnership signals a broader shift toward smarter governance and improved citizen experience across the State.
