Philip Shuaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, on Monday in Benin City announced his intention to run for Governor on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party during the upcoming 2024 governorship election.
Shuaibu, who has been a part of the political scene for 30 years and worked with Governor Godwin Obaseki for seven years to rebuild the state, believes he is the best candidate to succeed Obaseki.
He urged the electorates and party members to support his ambition, stating that he understands the plight of the people and will provide practical governance if elected.

Shuaibu’s announcement is a positive development for the state’s political landscape as it provides a viable option for voters who seek to elect a governor that will prioritize the needs of the people.
With his wealth of experience in politics and state-building, Shuaibu is well-positioned to continue the developmental strides of the current administration and take the state to greater heights.
His declaration also presents an opportunity for healthy political competition, which is an essential aspect of a thriving democracy.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, the election will take place on September 21, 2024.
