Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has stepped up efforts to consolidate his political machinery ahead of the 2027 presidential election with the appointment of Abdul-Aziz Naโibi Abubakar as Special Assistant on Northwest Regional Coordination.
The appointment places Abubakar in charge of coordinating political activities and strengthening Atikuโs political structure across Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna states.
The move signals a renewed push by the former presidential candidate to deepen his grassroots presence and reinforce his political network in the Northwest, a region considered crucial to the outcome of the 2027 presidential contest.
With the election drawing closer, Atiku appears determined to strengthen his regional coordination structure and mobilise support across key political constituencies.
