The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise, pushing it until after the 2027 General Election.
The decision was reached on Friday, April 10, 2026, during a high-level meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), where key electoral matters were reviewed.
In a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission said the postponement followed extensive deliberations on the exercise.
INEC described the voter revalidation process as a critical mechanism for maintaining a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters, noting that it is designed to verify voter records, correct personal data, eliminate duplicate or ineligible entries, and enhance the integrity of the electoral system.
The exercise also provides an avenue for registered voters to confirm and update their details where necessary.
Despite the delay, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections, assuring Nigerians that all necessary steps would be taken to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 polls.
