A 33-year-old man, identified as Monsuru Musa, has been arrested after allegedly impersonating his father and writing the FCT Civil Service Commission promotional examination on his behalf.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday, October 7, while taking the promotion examination for his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
According to Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for the security team, the man was apprehended by security personnel deployed on the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Upon his arrest, Monsuru reportedly claimed that his father was ill but was within the premises of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where the examination was being conducted.
He allegedly told interrogators that his father had directed him to sit for the examination on his behalf.
The case reportedly took another twist when Monsuru was asked about his father’s age.
The 33-year-old allegedly said his father was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, his father gave a different account, claiming that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further interrogation reportedly revealed discrepancies in Musa Mohammed’s educational history.
According to Olayinka, the senior Musa told security operatives that he completed secondary school in 1982 and primary school in 1977.
The circumstances surrounding the conflicting age claims and the alleged examination impersonation have now become subjects of investigation.
Olayinka said both father and son have been handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
