The Federal and Edo State Governments have extended the Household Empowerment Programme to Etsako Central Local Government Area, where 542 vulnerable households received debit cards under the ongoing social intervention initiative.
The distribution exercise, held in Fugar, marks the programme’s expansion to the second local government area in Edo North Senatorial District and forms part of efforts to implement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the SHINE Agenda of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The programme is being implemented through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the Edo State Social Cash Transfer Unit (SCTU).
The exercise is part of the ongoing distribution of 15,000 debit cards to eligible vulnerable households across Edo State to provide financial support and improve the living conditions of beneficiaries.
Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Area, Hon. Yakubu Cephas Mohammed, welcomed the implementation team and commended both the Federal and Edo State Governments for extending the intervention to the council.
He also applauded the Edo State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for driving the initiative, describing the programme as a significant intervention that would provide relief to vulnerable residents.
According to the council chairman, the empowerment scheme is one of several people-focused initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of disadvantaged households and reducing poverty across the state.
The Household Empowerment Programme is expected to continue across other local government areas as the government intensifies efforts to deliver social protection and economic support to vulnerable citizens.
