Two persons, a two-year-old girl and a commercial bus driver, have been killed in two separate accidents in Ibafo area, on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The tot was reportedly crushed to death at Warewa area on December 3, while the second victim, the driver of a commercial Toyota Hiace bus, lost his life to a reckless truck driver on December 2.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, “one Tunde Poopola reported on December 2, 2023 that, while driving along Ganu Road, shortly before 12th Avenue entrance, a driver did not notice that his rear tyre had run over a two-year-old girl” .
It took the intervention of sympathizer to halt the driver, who sped off, unknown that he had snuffed life out of the baby.
Efforts to revive the baby, who was immediately rushed to a hospital, proved abortive.
She was, at first, taken to Patti Robbo Clinic, from where they were referred to Broadland Hospital in Magboro, and was certified dead by the medical doctor on duty.
The lifeless body of the baby had been handed over to the family on their insistence for immediate burial.
In a similar circumstance, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, said that the driver of a Toyota Hiace bus, marked Kwara AFN 890 YNL, identified as Alfa Rafiu of Ile Ofearan in Kwara State, met his untimely death in that axis on December 2.
The deceased was said to had parked the faulty vehicle and was trying to fix it when the reckless driver hit him, leading to his death on the spot.
His remains have, however, been deposited at Real Divine Touch Mortuary in Ibafo, and the vehicle recovered to the Ibafo Police Station, for safekeeping.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has warned drivers in the state to avoid reckless driving and obey traffic, especially during this Yuletide season, noting that the police would not hesitate to prosecute any driver who causes death the or injuries on other road users.
