The Edo State Police Command is dedicated to enhancing the competencies of its officers and improving the quality of policing in the State. In line with this objective, the command organized a two-day capacity-building training program for senior officers on March 11 and 12, 2024.
The training program targeted Assistant Commissioners of Police, Divisional Police Officers, Sectional Heads of State Criminal Investigation Department, and Tactical Teams of the ranks of Chief Superintendents of Police down to the Assistant Superintendents of Police.
The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, mni, in conjunction with Fimihan Adeoye Security Consult, facilitated the training program, which was flagged off at the John Oyegun – Odigie Public Service Centre in Benin City, Edo State.
In his opening remarks, CP Adegboye expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his commitment to capacity building training and development for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
He emphasized that with this level of training across the states of the federation, police officers would be well equipped to deliver efficient and effective modern policing duties that the citizens would be proud of.
The two-day training program was packed with informative sessions, including lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions. The training covered a wide range of topics, including crime prevention, community policing, human rights, ethics, and professionalism. The facilitators, who were seasoned security experts and law enforcement professionals, delivered world-class lectures that were tailored to the specific needs of the participants.
On the second day of the training program, CP Adegboye, while declaring the training program closed, commended Fimihan Adeoye Security Consult for partnering with Edo State Police Command and providing quality training. He pledged to maintain the partnership and ensure that it was sustained for future training programs.
The course participants, comprising police officers, were encouraged to take advantage of the training program and apply the knowledge gained in their daily duties. The officers were also implored to share their knowledge and experience with their colleagues to achieve a more significant impact.
Some senior police officers spoke on what they learnt and how it could be applied to modern-day policing. The training program ended with the presentation of certificates of participation to the participants, followed by group photographs and the departure of the officers.
