The Edo State Government, led by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced a sweeping suspension of all consultancy services operating within the State’s public service. This directive, effective immediately, applies to all financial dealings and engagements with the affected consultants and service providers.

In an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the move is part of a broader effort to streamline public service operations and ensure accountability. Ikhilor emphasised that this decision would remain in force until a specially constituted Review Committee concludes its assessment and submits its findings.

“All financial transactions and related activities with consultants and service providers are to be suspended forthwith,” the notice read. “This suspension allows for a thorough evaluation of the current engagements to determine their alignment with the state’s goals.”

Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to enforce the suspension and comply fully with the Governor’s order. The State government reiterated its commitment to enhancing efficiency and ensuring that public resources are managed transparently.

The Review Committee’s findings are expected to guide the government in deciding whether to reinstate, restructure, or permanently terminate the affected consultancy services. This action signals the administration’s focus on reinforcing fiscal responsibility and optimizing governance outcomes.
