Ethical Journalism: Edo Assembly Speaker Charges Journalists on balanced reportage

Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly , Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has passionately appealed to journalists within the State to prioritize balanced reporting in their work.
This call to action was made during a notable meeting with the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), led by their Chairperson, Adesuwa Ehimuan.
The visit, which saw the NAWOJ members engaging with Hon. Agbebaku, was met with commendation from the Speaker. He expressed his admiration for the group’s contributions to the legislative process and the broader societal discourse.
In his welcoming remarks, the Speaker underlined the crucial role journalists play in shaping public perception and voiced his support for the association’s endeavors.
Agbebaku charged journalists on balanced reportage, while urging them to take an active role in mentoring and supporting young women. By fostering an environment where young girls are encouraged to pursue their ambitions, the Speaker believes journalists can ensure a more inclusive and diverse media landscape.
Reiterating the legislative body’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, Hon. Agbebaku promised unwavering support for the upcoming International Women’s Day Celebration.
This event, marking a collaboration between NAWOJ and other professional women’s groups in Edo State, is scheduled for March 28th at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA). It promises to be a cornerstone event, highlighting the achievements and challenges of women in various sectors.
Chairperson of the Association, Adesuwa Ehimuan took the opportunity to outline NAWOJ’s activities and initiatives within the State.
Amidst the discussions, she lauded the Edo State House of Assembly for their proactive stance on pressing issues. This includes their efforts in calling the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to account over bottlenecks in the National Identification Number (NIN) registration process.
Ehimuan commended the Assembly for its commitment to enacting over thirty resolutions focused on public welfare, highlighting notable interventions such as addressing concerns with the Federal Ministry Of Works (FERM) regarding the maintenance of federal roads in Edo State.
