The leadership of Uzuakoli Development Association has categorically denied any involvement in the death of two brothers, Oluomachukwu Ugochukwu and Ikechukwu Ugochukwu, on May 23, 2024, at Amankwo, Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking at a press conference in Umuahia, the President General-elect, Barr. Prince Chigoziem Okechukwu, described the social media reports linking the association to the incident as “false, mischievous, and misleading.”
According to him, the deaths resulted from a cult clash between rival groups, and not from any action taken by the Uzuakoli Development Association or its vigilante group, Amamba.
He explained that the association’s Homeland Security Corps had earlier apprehended two recidivists, Uchechukwu Ekeleme and Uche (aka Cheroko), for armed robbery and cult activities, but were attacked by the cult members who attempted to liberate their leaders.
The President General-elect appealed to the Abia State Government to intervene in the matter and urged the public to disregard the “false and mischievous” reports circulating on social media.
He reiterated that Uzuakoli Development Association and its vigilante group, Amamba, had no hand in the death of the two brothers and were committed to maintaining peace and security in the community.
Efforts to reach Abia command’s PPRO, Maureen Chinaka to comment on the incident was not successful.
