A former top leader of the Eiye confraternity at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), identified as Elubu, has been reportedly killed in a renewed wave of cult violence in Yaba, Lagos State.
The deceased, Naija Confra reports, was said to be a former second-in-command of the Eiye cult group, popularly known as ACN, was allegedly ambushed and murdered by members of the rival Aye confraternity (NBM) around the WAEC area near YABATECH on Friday.
According to information circulating within cult circles and monitored by this online newspaper, Elubu had been a marked man following a long-running supremacy battle between the two rival groups.
Sources alleged that Aye members accused him of participating in the January 28 shooting of one of their top leaders in YABATECH, who reportedly survived the attack.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper revealed that Friday’s killing was the second attempt on Elubu’s life within the month of May.
On May 2, suspected Aye members reportedly tracked him down inside the YABATECH campus and chased him towards the institution’s back gate. During the attack, he was allegedly shot in the face but survived after pretending to be dead, causing his assailants to flee.
The attack reportedly left him with a severe facial injury and permanent damage to one of his eyes.
Following his recovery, associates reportedly advised him to leave the area or remain out of public view due to threats to his life. However, he was said to have returned to the vicinity after spending only a few weeks away.
Sources disclosed that Elubu was recently sighted around the YABATECH staff quarters where he had allegedly been hiding. His presence reportedly alerted rival cult members, who intensified efforts to track his movements.
On the day of the attack, he was said to have gone alone to the WAEC area for reasons that remain unclear.
Witness accounts indicated that his attackers, who had allegedly been monitoring him, seized the opportunity to strike, killing him on the spot.
The latest killing is believed to be part of an ongoing cycle of retaliatory attacks between rival cult groups operating around tertiary institutions in Lagos.
Elubu was also alleged to have participated in previous attacks against rival cult members before his death.
The incident has once again raised concerns over persistent cult-related violence around higher institutions, with residents and stakeholders calling for stronger security measures to curb the menace.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
