Edo State Attorney General Reinstated After Investigation Clears Him

The Edo State Government has officially reinstated the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, following the conclusion of an investigation into allegations of financial misconduct.

Osagie, who was suspended 37 days ago over unproven financial infractions, was exonerated by a government-appointed investigative panel. His recall was communicated via an official letter from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, on Tuesday evening.

The letter, referenced SGA. 15/NOL.XV111/215, stated that Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo had directed Osagie’s reinstatement after the inquiry found no evidence of wrongdoing.

“Having considered the report of the Investigative Panel set up by the Government to investigate allegations of financial infractions reported against you, which has exonerated you from the said allegations, I write to convey the directive of the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, that you resume duties as the State Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice with effect from 12th March 2025.”

In response, Osagie expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo, praising what he described as the governor’s commitment to fairness and justice.

“In an uncommon display of statesmanship, His Excellency Governor Monday Okpebholo has recalled me from suspension following my exoneration from allegations of grave official and financial infractions. I am deeply grateful for this monumental gesture of upholding truth, justice, and fairness.”

The reinstated Attorney General further reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Edo State, pledging to ensure the Ministry of Justice remains steadfast in delivering legal services to the government and its institutions.

Osagie also noted that the investigative process had provided valuable lessons, adding that with the governor’s leadership, Edo residents could expect transparency and fairness in governance.

His reinstatement marks the conclusion of a controversy that had raised concerns over due process in state administration.
