Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has named Barrister Musa U. Ikhilor as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Samson Osagie as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as Commissioner for Health.
These appointments mark a new chapter for the State’s governance, reflecting Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to efficient and professional leadership across essential sectors.
The announcement was made public in a press statement released to Uptown Press by Mr. Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor. The statement clarified that Dr. Osagie and Dr. Oshiomhole’s nominations would be sent to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation in the coming days.
Experienced Legal Mind as SSG: Barr. Musa Ikhilor
Born on August 6, 1980, Barr. Ikhilor brings a wealth of experience in legislative governance and constitutional matters to his role as SSG. With an LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School, he has served in various legislative capacities over the past decade.
His work as a consultant on Nigeria’s constitutional review process, focusing on gender equity and human rights, underscores his dedication to advancing good governance.
Barr. Ikhilor’s experience extends into the business and legal realms, where he serves as Managing Partner of Springfield Legal Consult and as Executive Director of the Amana Legacy Foundation. His diverse background in governance, consultancy, and corporate law is expected to strengthen Edo State’s administrative and policy framework.
State Attorney-General Nominee: Dr. Samson Osagie
Dr. Osagie, a seasoned legal practitioner and vice president of the African Bar Association for the West African Region, has been nominated as Attorney-General. Born on November 11, 1967, he is no stranger to public service, having served in the Edo State House of Assembly and later in the House of Representatives, where he rose to the position of Minority Whip. He holds degrees in Law, Public Administration, and International Relations, along with a Doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies, bringing substantial academic and practical expertise to the role.
Dr. Osagie’s career has been marked by a commitment to legal excellence and advisory roles for various organizations, and his appointment as Attorney-General could reinforce Edo’s justice system with informed legal reforms.
Health Commissioner Nominee: Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole
Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, a public health specialist, has been tapped for the position of Commissioner for Health. Dr. Oshiomhole’s impressive academic portfolio includes a Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, a Master’s in Public Health from Tulane University, as well as specialized training in Clinical Research from Harvard University and Gastroenterology from Queen Mary University in London.
His background in environmental health, toxicology, and disaster management aligns well with Edo State’s goals of enhancing healthcare services and public health standards.
Dr. Oshiomhole’s expertise positions him to bring innovative healthcare strategies and strengthened public health infrastructure to the State, particularly as Edo seeks to improve health outcomes and resilience against public health challenges.
