Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow and extended his heartfelt condolences to Senator Rowland Owie, former Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, following the passing of his beloved wife, Lady Helen Owie (LSJI). Lady Helen departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, at the age of 71.
In a tribute released to the press, Senator Imasuen described Lady Helen as a “remarkable woman” whose life epitomised compassion, dignity, and quiet strength.
“I received the news of Lady Helen Owie’s passing with immense sadness,” Senator Imasuen stated. “My heart goes out to my dear elder and leader, Senator Rowland Owie, who has lost not only a wife but a lifelong companion, friend, and soulmate. For over five decades, Lady Helen stood as a steadfast pillar beside him, building a home that radiated warmth, honour, and grace.”
Senator Imasuen praised Lady Helen’s devotion to her family and faith, highlighting the influence she had on those around her.
“Her life was one of silent service and unwavering faith. She was a woman of deep humility, devotion, and strength—a nurturing matriarch who brought unity and compassion to all who knew her. In Senator Owie’s own words, she made their home a sanctuary, embraced his family with love, and carried herself with a rare, gentle dignity.”
Reflecting on the impact of her life, Senator Imasuen emphasised that Lady Helen’s legacy would endure for generations, not only within her family but throughout the wider community.
“Lady Helen was truly the heartbeat of her family—a God-fearing woman whose reverence for the Blessed Virgin Mary was evident in the serenity and love she radiated. Her departure is a painful loss not only to her family but to all who encountered her quiet light.
“On behalf of my family, my constituents, and the entire people of Edo South, I extend my deepest sympathies to Senator Rowland Owie and the entire Owie family. May the Lord comfort you and surround you with peace in this time of mourning. May Lady Helen’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may her legacy of love endure in all she leaves behind.”
Lady Helen Owie is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her life, characterised by grace, service, and steadfast love, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
